If you are in Japan currently, and go to a shrine or temple (or church–our church celebrates this, too), you may see kids dressed in kimono with their proud parents.  It’s “Shichi Go San” season, which falls on November 15.    (But is often celebrated on the closest weekend.)

Shichi=seven

Go=five

San=three

It’s  when girls age seven and three and boys age five are celebrated.  They get their photos taken and are given candy.   A party for them, maybe.

Here’s the candy for Shichi Go San at my local supermarket:

Really, really cute, isn’t it.  It’s only sold this time of the year, so if you see it, then buy it as a souvenir!

Here is an extremely nice Highlights article than you can listen to with your child.
