Well, all good things must come to an end. Our trip to the United States ended and we returned back to Japan. Arriving at Narita Airport in the morning meant that we could browse a bit at their shops. My son headed for the Pokemon Store while I went to the bookstore.
Something interesting about Japanese book shops….Some book stores wrap your book like shown in the photo. Why? I don’t really know. Perhaps to keep it clean, perhaps to prevent others from noticing that you are reading raunchy manga.
Ironically, my book was merely a book on studying Japanese, not raunchy at all. So they just do it for every book (at this particular book store.)
I thought these drink holders were really cute. But had no need of one. I think Americans use this style way more than Japanese people. Here in Japan, people are more likely to use a metal cup colder.
Starbucks helping Tohoku. I am always so thankful of the love other people have shown for the stricken areas of Tohoku.
Before the Starbucks opened in Sakata, I always used to think of that little Starbucks kiosk in Haneda as the closest Starbucks to my city! I’ve had many a drink there.
With the bookstores that I shop at, they always ask me if I want my books wrapped. I always say no! Never really understood the wrapping thing. I usually WANT people to talk about the books that I’m reading with me…except for Twilight. That was the only exception. I wouldn’t have minded a cover for that one! 😉
We got our Starbucks in Fukushima City in recent years…before that I think I went to Mister Donuts? Or McDonalds.
They didn’t ask me about the wrapping–they just did it! It made me think that it must take a lot of time to wrap each person’s books.
If you purchase more than one, do they wrap them altogether or separately? Just curious! I lived in Japan as a child and enjoy reading your blog for fun. I read yours, also, stellastarstruck! 🙂 Hope to return to Japan for a visit one day…
More than one book? I think they put the individual covers on them, and then put them in a bag. :=) Thanks for reading my blog!
And thanks for reading mine too 🙂 Always happy to hear from a reader!
