This book is called “Gyouza Tukuttano.”  “We Made Chinese Dumplings.”

Gyoza are a common food in Japan, especially accompanying ramen noodles.  The translation is “dumplings” but I doubt many foreigners in Japan call them that.  Gyoza are gyoza!  It’s one of those Japanese words that sneaks into our English conversations, and I forget that people outside of Japan don’t know what gyoza are.


When parents leave for the day, the children are bored, and they make gyoza.  Gyoza requires hot oil, so this worries me a bit, but I guess if nobody else is worried, then I am not going to worry.  These kids make a mess, but fortunately they don’t burn the house down.

I liked the funky illustrations.  They are quite imaginative.
