I wanted to show you the shop on the first floor of the Corasse Building in downtown Fukushima (west exit.) It is a shop that sells goods from all over Fukushima Prefecture. A great place to buy presents for people!
You can see the famed akabeko.
Cork purses. One of these purse is about four hundred dollars.
This is sort of stuff is not made in a factory or sweatshop. All lovingly made by craftspeople.
Tengu: mountain spirits.
The pricetag was for three hundred dollars.
I like this lacquerware. It’s definitely a step up from Walmart or Target, but not extravagantly expensive, so it makes a good present for people abroad.
Japanese has sweet little jewelry boxes. My husband bought me one when we were first married. About a hundred or a hundred and fifty dollars.
Pottery. Every area in Japan seems to have its own special pottery. I rarely buy pottery for people abroad for fear of it breaking during travel.
Here is a list of blogs by Japanese people living in Fukushima. http://localeast.blogmura.com/fukushima/
