Glorious Matsukawa Town on the outskirts of Fukushima City.
These swans are visiting for the winter from Russia.
I hope you are enjoying your stay, Little Birdies!
A great view of the mountains
This is the Fukushima countryside!
Our area (Fukushima City and its environs) was not evacuated during the nuclear crisis, but here is a book about a town that was indeed evacuated. Hope for the Madei Village I borrowed it from our prefectural library. It is in English and Japanese. Heartbreaking little book.
I love the swan photo! I was appreciative of the info too – that they were in Japan for the winter having come from Russia. I’m interested in ” stuff” like that. I’ll bet the town looks really pretty in the spring and summer when everything is green and in bloom!
I think swans are all over Tohoku in winter (from Russian Siberia). They are called Whooper Swans? I think this link shows their migration path (scroll down) http://www.wbsj.org/nature/public/strix/15/Strix15_01.pdf
